McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton never leaves you in any doubt that racing driver Ayrton Senna will always be his greatest hero.

The British driver strives to be like the deceased Brazilian ace in every way, and for the Brazilian Grand Prix he has been able to emulate his idol in one respect at least, by combining his helmet design with his own: “I’ve got a special helmet for this race weekend, featuring an Ayrton Senna design. My regular design is at the front and Ayrton’s at the rear. I’m using the green line that Ayrton had on his helmet. No one has ever done that before.”

Well, no one, apart from Bruno Senna. Hamilton was unable to copy the original in every detail, since the nephew of triple world champion Senna currently uses the design: “So I decided to combine the two. I asked Viviane Senna for permission to utilise both design and logo. To do the green lines meant putting together a special order, so I hope to have a lot more green helmets!”

Yes, there’s no doubt, he’s certainly invested a lot of time and effort in perfecting the Hamilton-Senna combination for Interlagos. He’s also hoping to do some good in the world: “It’s a real honour to wear this helmet, and we can hopefully raise some money for the Senna Foundation.”
