Universal Pictures (UK) are proud to announce that Senna has achieved the biggest Week 1 sales result for a non-music theatrically-released documentary, with staggering UK sales of £101k to date.  Senna has surpassed Week 1 of popular home entertainment titles Paranormal Activity (£80.1k), The Fighter (£82.8k) and Public Enemies (£85.4k).

Having already won the ‘Audience Award’ for ‘World Cinema Documentary’ at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, Senna is greatly tipped for awards success in 2012; the first year that the BAFTA® Awards are to include a Best Documentary category.

Senna producer James Gay-Rees commented: “We’re so happy that Ayrton’s story has resonated with so many people – his utterly unique approach to life is as inspiring and relevant today as it was then”.

Director Asif Kapadia added: “One of our greatest challenges was to find the right balance so the film worked for the hardcore F1 fans who know everything, and for people who have no interest in motor racing at all.

“The reaction to the film has been unreal and it’s particularly brilliant for all of the hard work over many years put in by the whole Senna team.  The DVD release has put Ayrton back at No1; where he belongs!”

Writer Manish Pandey commented: “Growing up, Ayrton Senna was always on TV at home and we are thrilled to be able to bring him to living rooms all over the UK.  We are blown away by the number of people who have bought Senna during its first week on release”.

The must-see documentary provides a moving and exclusive behind-the-scenes insight into a Brazilian man credited with raising the spirits of his entire home nation at the time it needed it most.

From the dizzying heights of stardom to the tragic low of his untimely death, Senna will evoke emotion from the even most hardened viewer.

Brilliantly focusing on Senna’s life both on and off the track, Asif Kapadia creates moments of passionate drama, breath-taking action and heart-breaking sadness to make Senna an essential own for all lovers of a good story –  not just fans of Formula 1.

The home entertainment package is available not just on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy, but also as a collector’s edition with a production booklet, and for the die hard Senna fans, as a stunning limited collector’s edition with production booklet and a scale model of Ayrton Senna’s very own Lotus F1 car.
