The Ayrton Senna Institute shared the experience of implementing the full-time high school education proposal on the first day of one of the largest education innovation events in the world, SXSWedu (South by Southwest) in Texas (USA). With more than 400 thematic sessions, the meeting brings together an audience of thousands of people interested in following the main trends of the education debate. Among the presentations, only the Institute showed a Brazilian experience.
During the one-hour session, participants were able to learn about the challenges and achievements of the initiative in which the Institute and the Santa Catarina Secretariat of Education, with partner support , promote the integral education of young people in public schools. One of the people responsible for the presentation, the project manager of the Rita Moreira Leite Institute, said that participation in the event was a recognition of the differential of the work done and shows that it is possible to contribute to the advancement of common challenges in other countries. “This was an incredible opportunity to shed light on a project that is very important for us, and on a global issue, since the development of skills in youth education is not a necessary advance in Brazil alone, we realize that it is something relevant to other places as well, “he said.
“It was a very exciting experience to be able to talk to people from all over the world, especially because in interaction with the public we had people interested in knowing more about our competency matrix, asking us to share more material and even suggesting that the experience be taken outside Brazil ! “, Completed Cynthia Oliveira, project manager of the Institute who also participated in the presentation.
With a specific program that precedes the well-known SXSW festival, the education conference seeks to put in contact a community of different actors with diverse forms of action and the common goal of generating impact and advances in education. Participants include teachers, school managers, representatives of governments and NGOs, as well as entrepreneurs. Being selected to participate in this moment is a recognition of the quality and potential of the work, as well as an opportunity to integrate groups that are making a difference in their areas.
Among the main trends identified by the organization of the event from presentations are efforts to engage and empower students. According to the organization, a number of approaches point to a movement to support the student’s full development, from personalized approaches to new models of educator-led teaching practices.
