The Brazilian Ayrton Senna is the record for pole positions in the Australian Grand Prix Formula 1.
When the race was held in Adelaide, the pilot went in front six times: once by Lotus in 1985 for McLaren and five times: 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1993. In the same stroke, the Englishman Nigel Mansell earned three pole positions: 1986, 1992 and 1994.
In Melbourne, Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher share the lead, three times each. Rubens Barrichello has already went ahead in 2002.
