First carbon fiber case for Hublot…and surely an emotional watch for F1 fans…
Awesome! In the penultimate race of the year, Hublot has pulled out all the stops with the introduction of not one, but two new King Power watches – Hublot King Power Ayrton Senna and Hublot King Power Tourbillon Ayrton Senna. Both watches sport the yellow/blue/green colors or the Brazilian nation and are made almost entirely from materials used in Formula 1, such as carbon fibre for the case (a first for Hublot), ceramic, and Nomex for the strap. There is so much to say about these watches — for many F1 fans these will be very emotion-evoking watches…this year would have been Ayrton Senna’s 50th birthday. More on this later…I gotta get right to the a first look at the Hublot King Power Ayrton Senna, as you will see true embodiment of Formula 1 in sooooo many ways:

Ayrton Senna’s death in 1994 rocked the F1 world. Hublot has had a close relationship with Ayrton’s sister, Viviane, and the Instituto Ayrton Senna for a few years now. You may recall the first Big Bang Senna launched in 2007 and the Big Bang Senna Foudroyante presented in Tokyo in 2009. Now – for the São Paulo Grand Prix weekend, Viviane Senna and the Instituto Ayrton Senna hosted a special event on the November 3, 2010 which provided the backdrop for Hublot’s unveiling of the King Power Ayrton Senna and the premiere of the documentary-film “Senna”.
As noted above the watch has split seconds timing, marked with a button on the left-side of case. To measure a split time, the first “split second” hand is stopped, while the second continues to run. This mechanism allows time to be taken to check this first period, before the push-button is activated again, allowing the hand to catch up with the direct-drive hand. This function can be used to calculate the split times of a racer, or the times of two racers.
